We provide a range of door adjustment services in the West Yorkshire area. Often what can happen, especially with UPVC doors is that the doors can drop over time. This can happen more often with doors which have large glass panels in the door. This is because glass is exceptionally heavy and over time causes the door to pull down and drop.

There are many ways in which a door can be adjusted, one way is to use a process called toe and heeling the door whereby the glass panel is removed and packers and inserted under the glass. Another option is by adjusting the hinges the raise the doors into the correct position. It is essential that the alignment of the doors match and align with the keep in order to lock correctly.

Door Adjustment on Sliding Doors

Just like standard UPVC doors, sliding doors can also need adjustment over time. You will notice this when the sliding doors become hard to slide and close shut. The door often scrapes along the guiding rail. In order to fix this we remove the door from the guide rail in order to work on the door correctly. Often we can then adjust the rolling wheels on the sliding door in order to raise the door higher.

Sometimes when we inspect the wheels, we find that the sliding door wheels are broken altogether. In this case we replace the wheels with brand new ones and adjust to the correct height.

Conservatory Door Adjustments & Door hinge adjustment

Conservatory doors need adjustment just like standard opening doors as they can also drop over time. You have felt the doors becoming harder to lock over time where you have to lift the handle harder to lock the door.

This is a sure sign that the door needs adjusting, and if it isn’t it will eventually lead to the breaking of the door mechanism. Doors should lock and close smoothly when operating the door and if not the entire door may need re-hanging if regular adjustments don’t work.

How to adjust a door that won’t close

There are three main ways to adjust a door that won’t close, one is by using an allen key to adjust the door hinges, the second is by using new replacement hinges and the third is by adjusting the actual door keep matching the new dropped position of the door.

Bi-folding doors can often need adjustment due to been installed incorrectly. These kind of doors can be an absolute nightmare for people to work on, so unless you are a professional, we would advise not to.

Another common door that people have problems with are balcony doors, also known as french doors which can drop over time just like regular UPVC doors. We can realign these doors in exactly the same way as normal dropped doors.  Adjusting balcony doors is no problem for us as professional locksmiths.

Communal Door Realignment

Communal doors receive a lot of heavy traffic and use and over time this can cause the doors to become misaligned and drop. Over time these means that the doors become stiff to lock ad they no longer align with the locking keeps.

After a while the doors may stop locking altogether. We can repair and adjust communal doors just in the exact same way as regular doors. Often if the doors have dropped too much and may need to completely remove the door from its hinges and rehang the door in order to place the door in the correct position.

Some communal doors can be glass doors, however these can drop and require adjustment in just the same way as regular doors. We can adjust glass doors in exactly the same way as other doors by either adjusting the flag hinges or to and heeling the door. We can also realign the striking keep so that it matchs the dropped glass door too.
