Brilliant service! Needed a lock replaced after a snapped key in a French door. Andy was here less than an hour after my call. He also fixed and tightened the doors making them more efficient. Thanks so much! Highly recommend.

Andy responded quickly to our message and arrived when he said he would on Sunday to try to fix our door. Due to age and trickiness (we have had a few people to tend to it over the years)he had to return today. He arrived at the time he said he would and persevered patiently with our tricky door, replacing the lock mechanism and working on the door so that it opens better now than when it was first fitted a good few years ago. He was polite, profressional and clearly had a lot of knowledge. I definitely recommend him.

Your home’s security must be on top of your priority list when you leave your house. Homeowners install cameras, alarms, and all kinds of security tools to get an immediate alert if any suspicious activity takes place around their homes. But what if the opposite happens and you are unable to get into your own house?

Suppose you get back home from work late at night only to discover that you have forgotten keys at the workplace and the only spare set of keys is hanging on the keyholder in your home. The office is closed and there’s no one with spare keys to your main door. Now what?

If you have ever got locked out of your house, you know the struggle of getting back in. And this usually happens at the most inconvenient times, i.e. when you have got a severe headache or you are exhausted from work. There are a few things you can do to get back in, but the most reliable decision would be to call the best locksmith Micklefield has to offer. Here’s how they can help.

Common Problems a Locksmith Can Resolve

Are you locked out of your home or office? Whether you have forgotten your keys at work or the keys are stuck inside the lock and won’t come out, a locksmith can help. Locksmiths are trained to unlock different kinds of locks, including night latches and Euro cylinder locks. They can help you get inside without damaging your property.

You can hire a locksmith if:

  • Your keys are stolen or lost
  • They are partially inside the lock and partially out
  • The key breaks inside the lock and is stuck
  • The key won’t turn properly

A locksmith can also repair and replace a broken lock. If you are having trouble getting into your place because of the damaged lock, hire a locksmith immediately to have them replaced. They will also advise you to upgrade your locks for improved safety and aesthetics.

What to Do When You are Locked Out?

Have you ever got back from work only to realize that you have left keys at the office? Or, have you ever tried unlocking the door only to get the keys broken inside the lock? Believe it or not, your first instinct would be to break the window and get inside quickly. That might be your last resort, but before that, you should try some practical ways to unlock your door. If you want to try your best before seeking professional help, these tips can help.

Call Someone with Keys to Your Home

Before you take any extreme measures, think about people that have keys to your house. Is it a neighbor that always has an extra pair of your home keys? Or, do you live in a rented house with a landlord having keys to your rental apartment? Call them to see if they can come quickly and unlock your door. This option seems viable when your keys are stolen or lost. Or, you have forgotten them somewhere. There’s no need to cut a new key to your doors. Anyone with a spare key to your place can come to your rescue. However, this may not work if your keys are stuck in the door lock or the lock is damaged beyond repair.

Try to Get in Through the Window

You should never leave your house’s doors and windows open, not even the back doors. These are the main entry points for intruders. However, if you are locked out of your house, it’s good to check the windows, just in case. Do not break the window or cut the glass using a knife or any sharp object. This might cause harm to you or the property. If you left the window open, try to unlock it from the inside if you can get your hands there. If not, move on to the next step.

Try a Plastic Card

There’s a small chance the trick you see in movies might work here. There’s no harm in trying, though. Take your card and slide it gently into the small crack between the frame and your door. Tilt it slightly so that it touches the door knob and then wiggle the card back and forth. While doing this, you must press the handle with pressure. This trick might unlock your door. Here’s what to do if it does not work.

Break In

Some situations call for a desperate move. You may have tried everything mentioned above, but if nothing worked and you have kids inside, your best bet is to break in. You may not want to wait for a locksmith if there’s an emergency. Check the back door. If you can unlock it using a credit card trick or by pushing it, do it. That’s the easiest way to get in.

If the front door is your only option, pushing the door hard on the knob can do the trick. Or, you may ask your neighbors to help break the door. We’d highly advise you against breaking the window, as that can be very risky. Needless to say, entering your house through a broken window can cause injuries. Besides, breaking a window is not easy.

Call a Locksmith

If it’s not an emergency, call emergency locksmith Micklefield for help. They will help you get inside without taking the door knob apart or breaking the door or windows. Locksmiths specialize in duplicating the keys to your doors, rekeying your home, and repairing the existing lock. They can also get the keys (stuck in the lock) out safely.

What to Avoid When You Are Locked Out?

As mentioned earlier, people’s first instinct is to break the door or windows when they are locked out of the house. While that may seem like an ideal way to handle emergencies, it should really be your last resort. Throwing rocks at glass windows won’t only leave you with a hefty bill to pay, but it can cause serious injuries to the people inside the house.

Getting in through a broken glass window is a dangerous attempt. It’s cheaper and safer to wait for a professional to make spare keys to your door and get inside safely. Later, you can think about changing the door locks or rekeying your house. Calling 911 won’t help either unless it’s an emergency. The fire department or police won’t help if you have lost your keys. Likewise, trying to climb up to the roof to get inside through a window or an attic is not a good idea. Wait for someone with the key to arrive or call a locksmith.

When Should You Call a Locksmith?

Hiring a locksmith may not be a good decision for all issues. Here’s when it makes sense to call a professional for help.

Lost and Stolen Keys

If you have misplaced your keys, call a locksmith immediately. There is a risk somebody might find those keys and get access to your home when you are not around. Locksmiths won’t just help you get inside your house when you are locked out, but they will rekey your home or change locks so that the old keys can’t be used.

Changing Your Apartment

If you are moving into a new house, you may want to call a locksmith to change the lock for enhanced security and rekeying your house so that the previous landlord or tenants can’t get into your property if they have spare keys to the main doors. You never know how many people have access to the spare keys to your house.

If there were multiple copies made, there’s always a risk someone can enter your home in your absence. Besides, it’s not just about rekeying a house. Sometimes, upgrading your outdated locks to a modern locking mechanism is a must to ensure maximum security for your kids and property. You don’t want any intruders breaking into your home just because your door knobs were too loose and outdated to resist a physical attack.

Lock Repairs and Replacements

Earlier we mentioned how it can be really difficult for a homeowner to get a stuck key outside the lock. Whether it’s partially stuck or fully inside the lock, taking it out can get tricky. It’s even more challenging if the key is broken inside the lock. Your best bet is to wait outside until an emergency locksmith arrives. Based on the condition, they will either rekey your home or replace the entire lock. Not just for homes, but a locksmith can help when you are locked out of your car, office, and other places.

Forgotten Codes

If your door locks operate without physical keys or cards, you never have to worry about losing keys or somebody stealing them and getting unauthorized access to your place. However, electronic keypads come with their own share of risks.

There’s a chance you might forget the password combination and get locked out of your home or a restricted room. A locksmith can help in these cases, as well. They know how to reset and recode electronic machines for door locks. They will re-configure a new password and make other necessary changes to your locking mechanism.

How Do You Find the Best Emergency Locksmith?

You might think of plenty of ways to break the locks and get quick access to your property, but it’s considered safer to wait for the locksmith for safe entry. As mentioned before, breaking into a house by kicking the door or throwing stuff at windows won’t just cause unnecessary damage to your property, but it can cause injuries.

If you have spare keys, that’s perfect. But what about the original ones you have lost? If someone finds them, they can easily access your place. Whether you have lost your keys or got them partially stuck/broken in the lock, hiring a Locksmith Micklefield is your best bet. The question is how do you find a reliable, emergency locksmith? These tips may help.

Check their Experience

A professional locksmith is trained to help when you get locked out of your office, home, or car. They know how complex the locking mechanisms are, and most of them can fix nearly all kinds of door locks—from conventional design to modern locks. You can call an emergency locksmith that’ll come to your rescue at any time and any place.

These professionals are available even when you call them at midnight. Unless it’s an emergency, it’s advisable to check a few things with the locksmith before hiring them. Check how many locks they have repaired in the past, if they have experience working with your specific locking mechanism, can they replace your lock system with modern, access control lock units?

Reliability and Transparency

Working with a locksmith may sound fishy, as one might think a locksmith can create a copy of their original key and misuse them. Fortunately, that should be the least of your concerns. A reliable locksmith that’s certified and trained to unlock doors can never attempt to break into your house or create a spare key for themselves. Locksmith Micklefield works in a reputable organization that has strict security regulations. Always check their certificates and other credentials before letting them work on your lock.

Quick Response

The purpose of calling a locksmith is to get your home locks repaired or unlocked quickly so that you don’t have to wait for help. Look for someone who can arrive quickly and get your issue fixed as soon as possible. As mentioned before, locksmiths are trained and qualified to unlock locked doors without keys or with keys partially or fully inside the lock. They can work on just about any lock mechanism and help the homeowner get inside safely.

Cost-Efficient

Breaking your glass windows or the door is going to cost you considerably more than calling a locksmith for help. They are much more reasonable and quote a fair price for repairing your lock or cutting a new key to your doors. Initially, you might think breaking the lock is your best bet, as that can give you quick access to your home and you can save the locksmith fee. Contrary to what you think, you will pay more if you try DIY door-unlocking techniques. Think about it—breaking the door comes with a hefty door repair fee. Add to this, the cost of fixing the door knob and replacing the windows that you broke to get inside.

Eventually, the lock that you broke will need replacement. Locksmiths, on the other hand, assess the situation and quote a reasonable fee. You can also compare them based on their charges. Research the best locksmiths in your area and get quotes from each. Narrow your list to the top locksmiths that are willing to unlock your doors at the best price.

Locksmith with Specialty Skills

Locksmiths are not just for emergency requirements. While they are mostly hired when you are locked out of your place or you are worried someone has stolen your keys, they can also help with other security-related needs.

For instance, if you are moving into a new house or considering an upgrade to your door lock mechanism, a locksmith is your best option. They can advise you to install the most suitable, robust, and high-quality door locks for ultimate protection. From breaking a lock to replacing them with premium door locks, a trained and professional locksmith can do all.

Professionalism

You will want the locksmith to arrive at your given address quickly and complete the repair job as professionally and fast as possible. So, that’s another thing you must check when working with a locksmith. Are they professional? Have they handled similar jobs before? What do other customers say about them? Will they arrive on time?

Do they bring the necessary tools to get the job done on the first attempt? All these things matter when it comes to convenience. Nobody wants to stand outside their house calling their family and friends to check if anyone can help. Or you wouldn’t want to wait in your neighbor’s house until help arrives.

Check Warranty

Another important consideration when hiring a locksmith is warranty. Of course, it’s the last thing you ask when you are stuck out of your house and need emergency lock repair or key replacement services. But, if you have time, check the warranty page before hiring a locksmith. Does the locksmith offer warranty on the products used or their services? Will they offer a free repair if anything gets damaged during the warranty period?

Final Verdict

Losing your keys can be really hectic. You don’t want to get locked out of the house at times when all you need is to sleep after a long day at work. Things don’t always go as planned. If you ever get stuck in such situations, know that locksmith Micklefield is available at your disposal 24/7 and they can help you get in safely.
