Today I received some locksmith training in Welwyn Garden City with the famous Jonathan Horsley. It’s important to always keep up to date with training in the locksmith industry. With so many different types of locks and security systems out there, it’s important to have the knowledge and skills needed to work with them all. The subject of the day in particular was in repairing aluminium doors. These are the kind of door which are often on schools or shop fronts. They consist of an aluminium frame with glass centre. Many locksmiths shy away from this kind of work as the doors can be heavy and more complicated than your regular door repair. However these are the kind of jobs I was recommend people to learn, the harder the job , the less competition there is in it.

With todays job, one door had dropped and needed adjustment. This was done by removing the door and raising the pivot. The second door needed a door transom replacing. This is essentially a door closer which controls the speed and power at which he door closes.

All in all, it was a good day out. There are classroom based courses out there which cover aluminium door repair however I feel that hands on experience on real jobs is much more beneficial. So a big thanks to Jonathan from the Active Lock Centre. Jonathan is a locksmith based in Welwyn Garden City and is also a member of the MLA.
